PAEPeC – Call for papers: “Integrating Nuclear Strategy with Energy Transition Towards Sustainability”

The Jean Monnet Module Public Administrations in the EU Energy Policies and Communities – PAEPeC is pleased to announce the launch of a Call for Papers on nuclear energy and the energy transition.

This is the first step in a series of activities, followed by a discussion workshop.

Topic

The integration of nuclear strategy with sustainable development in the EU focuses on harnessing nuclear energy as a vital low-carbon resource to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Nonetheless, challenges remain in ensuring safety, effective waste management, and public acceptance.

While Member States continue to pursue diverse nuclear policies, the European Union encourages regulatory harmonization, innovation, and workforce development to strengthen strategic collaboration. This balanced approach seeks to establish nuclear power as a sustainable cornerstone of Europe’s broader clean energy transition.

Additionally, nuclear microreactors are increasingly being utilized in applications such as powering data centre, highlighting their growing role in decentralized energy solutions.

Against this background, the Scientific Committee welcomes proposals on topics falling within the scope of the workshop, including but not limited to the followings:

  1. Balancing the EU Green Deal’s and the EU’s Nuclear Energy Strategy
  2. Nuclear Policy and the Aarhus Convention: Ensuring Transparency, Public Participation, and Access to Justice
  • Nuclear Strategy Development in EU Member States: Administrative Challenges and Policy Implementation
  • Economic and Sociological Perspectives on Institutional Changes Driven by Nuclear Energy Use
  • Microreactors and the Decentralized Energy Paradigm: New Frontiers in Nuclear Applications
  • The Euratom Treaty and secondary legislation: relations and prospects
