The EU Agencies Corner is dedicated to exploring the role of EU agencies and agency-like bodies within the EU’s institutional landscape. It contributes to the discussion on their role in the EU, aiming to enhance excellence, knowledge, and interdisciplinarity in research. Committed to dialogue, the EU Agencies Corner encourages young and senior academics to engage with and write about topical issues regarding EU agencies and agency-like bodies.

Ellen Vos is Professor of EU Law at the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University. She is the co-director of the Maastricht Centre for European Law. Additionally, she is a visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Bruges. Ellen’s research focuses on EU constitutional and institutional law, competence, delegation of powers, comitology and agencies, internal market law, differentiated integration and EU risk regulation (e.g. food safety).

Emma Pecqueux is a PhD candidate at Maastricht University within the ERC-funded SoftEN project investigating the use of soft enforcement in EU migration policies.  Her doctoral research focuses on the monitoring mechanisms within the EU’s Integrated Border Management (IBM) framework, with attention to their potential in promoting compliance and safeguarding fundamental rights.

Pauline El-Khoury is a PhD candidate in EU law within the SoftEN project at Maastricht University. Her research focuses on steering as a form of soft enforcement in EU migration governance and examines how EU migration agencies, notably the EUAA and Frontex, steer national implementation practices through different soft enforcement instruments. Her work analyses the constitutional, institutional, and practical implications of agency-led steering for the EU’s evolving enforcement framework.
