REALaw Dialogue: Beyond adjudication. Exploring the Multifaceted Role of Supreme Administrative Courts
The next REALaw Dialogue will take place on 9 June 2026, 15.00-16.30, online.
The Dialogue will be dedicated to a monograph edited by Wojciech Piątek (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland), entitled Beyond adjudication. Exploring the Multifaceted Role of Supreme Administrative Courts, published by Edward Elgar.
This book systematically examines the diverse roles of Supreme Administrative Courts across Europe, including the Councils of State. Due to their dual “judicial” and “administrative” nature, Supreme Administrative Courts are still believed by many European jurisdictions to be especially well-suited to addressing public law disputes and articulate general principles of administrative law. Through a series of successive country-specific and thematic chapters, the monograph aims to answer key questions about Supreme Administrative Courts’ role, including questions about administrative competency and application of “public law” norms on disputes, the manner in which Supreme Administrative Courts can positively affect legislation, and these Courts’ broader role and stature within judicial power.
Discussants: Prof. Jacques Ziller, Full professor in public law (French Universities) and in EU law (Università di Pavia-Italy); Francis Delaporte, President of the Administrative Law, Vice-President of the Constitutional Law of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg.
